CLIENT:

Port Authority NSW

TIMELINE:

8 weeks

LOCATION:

Glebe Island

Situation

Protek coordinated and completed the decommission and removal of the existing substations 2 and 5 at Glebe Island. This also included the detection/extraction and remediation of asbestos materials found in the soil under the slabs of the substation.

Tactic

Demolish each structure with minimal impact to the Port Services on the wharf, limit the impact to the surround environment and remediate hazmat with no risk to staff, pedestrians and the environment.

Action

As Protek were working near the harbour it was important to mitigate dust and debris. This was completed by demolishing the substations in sections with meshed fencing and recycled water spraying.

Once hazmat was detected the area was sectioned off from any vehicles and pedestrians, a specialised hazmat team was brought in to mitigate and remove asbestos soil.

Result

Protek successfully delivered our tactic goals and provided a smooth demolition and asbestos remediation process for Port Services.
